LIFT 2003
a family friendly season
From May Day to the Midsummer Solstice, LIFT presents a season of exceptional international artists, all working in remarkable ways, to create through their theatre a space for reflection and renewal in difficult times.
The spirit of the season is provocative and celebratory: inspired by and engaging the voices and responses of a younger generation of theatre makers and their audiences.
From INAD in Palestine taking theatre to children in remote villages; to the puppeteers of Sovanna Phum fighting for the survival of a Khmer culture almost decimated during the Pol Pot years; through to Oskaras Korsunovas Theatre constructing a post-communist identity for Lithuania; such artists testify to the role of theatre in building new futures.
Throughout its 22 year history of presenting enjoyable and provocative theatre experiences from around the world, LIFT has always captured the imagination of all ages. This season is no exception - come and be part of it.
The LIFT '01 Festival marked our 20th birthday and the beginning of a new era, producing and commissioning theatre which goes farther and deeper into the world of performance , year-round . LIFT continues to ask questions about where theatre can happen, what it can be, about who can take part and how. So, as well as being an influential force on the arts, it has brought a sense of fun and a wealth of unexpected and exhilarating experiences and insights to Londoners.
