Dr Korczak’s Example
TAG Theatre Company
11 - 15 June
A warm, humorous and moving story exploring tolerance and humanity.
Performance/Theatre Company info Performance detailsDr Korczak’s Example tells the extraordinary story of Dr Janusz Korczak, director of an orphanage for Jewish children in 1940s Warsaw. Korczak created a unique children’s republic in the orphanage, run along democratic lines. His ground-breaking work with children was discovered after his death and became the basis of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The argument is complex but gripping, the acting hard to fault, and the dolls gradually become unforgettable symbols of human vulnerability, complexity and smallness in the face of history THE SCOTSMAN
Set in the orphanage in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942, Dr Janusz Korczak is struggling to bring up his young orphans to believe in justice and good as the Nazi threat encroaches increasingly on their daily lives. Dr Korczak’s Example by David Greig was a new writing commission for TAG.
